π§π½ Who Was Joshua?
- Birth Name: Hoshea, son of Nun, from the tribe of Ephraim. Moses renamed him Yehoshua (Joshua), meaning “The Lord is salvation”.
- Born in Egypt: Joshua was born during Israel’s captivity in Egypt and lived through the Exodus.
- Military Leader: First appears in Exodus 17, leading Israel in battle against Amalek while Moses held up his hands in prayer.
- Moses’ Assistant: He accompanied Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24:13) and remained at the Tent of Meeting (Exodus 33:11), showing deep devotion to God and Moses.
- Faithful Spy: One of the twelve spies sent to scout Canaan. Alongside Caleb, he gave a faithful report and urged Israel to trust God (Numbers 13–14).
- Successor to Moses: Commissioned by God to lead Israel into the Promised Land after Moses’ death (Deuteronomy 31; Joshua 1).
